Your next electricity & gas contract

Which offer is right
for your pub?

We compare offers using your consumption, contract dates and operating company. Your adviser explains the costs and terms so you can make a decision without having to interpret each supplier’s quote yourself.

Already have a renewal offer?

Include it with your enquiry. We can compare it with the other options available and explain any differences in cost or terms.

  • Can the supplier accept the business?

You may have found a price online, only to be declined when the supplier checked your credit. We check supplier suitability before presenting options. We also work with a handful of suppliers that do not carry out credit checks, which gives us another route to consider.

  • What will it cost overall?

We compare the rates against your usage, including standing charges and relevant additional costs. If an offer requires a deposit, we explain that upfront and look at available alternatives.

  • When should you agree the contract?

We review your end dates and the market with you. Gas and electricity can be arranged separately. If you’re not ready for prices yet, our renewal monitoring helps you follow the market while your current contract runs.

From enquiry to contract

What happens
when you contact us?

You don’t need to gather every document first. A bill is useful, but we can start with the site address and what you know about the supply.

  1. 01 / SHARE

    Tell us about the pub.

Upload a bill or give us the details you have. Tell us about any deadline, new company or supplier issue that could affect the arrangement.

  2. 02 / COMPARE

    We explain your options.

We check the supply and supplier requirements, obtain suitable offers and explain the price, contract term, conditions and our commission.

  3. 03 / ARRANGE

    You choose. We organise.

If you decide to proceed, we help arrange the paperwork and supply start. You agree the contract with the supplier and keep your Smart Energy adviser for ongoing support.

Taking on a pub

Let’s get the energy
handover sorted.

A new lease comes with enough to organise. We help identify the existing suppliers, coordinate the change of tenancy and arrange suitable contracts for the incoming business.

If the account is still in the previous occupier’s name or the supplier is asking for more evidence, we help establish what is needed and follow it up.

Get help with a change of tenancy
What helps us get started
  • 01 The pub’s address and the incoming company’s legal name.
  • 02 Your responsibility start date and lease or other supporting evidence.
  • 03 Opening readings with photographs of the meter displays and serial numbers.
  • 04 Any supplier letters or bills you have for the premises.

Energy used before your agreed contract starts may be charged at deemed rates. Contacting us early helps us progress the arrangements promptly.

Help throughout your contract

Who do you call
when the bill is wrong?

Your adviser can help with account queries after the contract starts. If a reading or charge looks wrong, we review the evidence and raise the issue with the supplier.

For GSG Hospitality, that meant investigating a substantial EDF demand and helping get the account resolved. The case study explains the work and the result.

Independent venues & pub groups

One pub or several.
We work around you.

A wet-led local, a pub with a busy kitchen and an inn with rooms will have different consumption patterns. We use the figures for your premises and ask about changes you’re planning.

For groups, we bring the companies, supplies and renewal dates together. We compare options across the portfolio and consider whether aligning dates would help, while keeping each site’s requirements clear.

Your renewal can wait. Your planning doesn’t have to.

Still in contract?

Our free renewal monitoring lets you follow wholesale-market movements and set alerts relevant to your contract dates. You decide when to ask for supplier prices. Monitoring doesn’t commit you to a contract or guarantee the lowest price.

What else would
you like to know?

Are you an energy supplier?

No. Smart Energy is an independent business energy adviser. We compare suitable offers and help arrange your contract. The chosen supplier provides and bills for the energy.

How are you paid?

Where commission is included in the contract, it is paid by the supplier. We explain our commission in writing before you agree. There is no obligation to accept a quote.

Can you help a new company with little credit history?

Yes. We check the available supplier routes, including a handful of suppliers we work with that do not carry out credit checks. We explain the conditions attached to the options available for your business.

Will we have to pay a security deposit?

That depends on the supplier and application. We check the conditions of the available offers and explore alternatives if a deposit is required. We will not describe an offer as deposit-free unless that is confirmed.

Can you help if we’re already in a contract?

Yes. We can help plan your next renewal and review account issues. An existing fixed contract normally continues until its agreed end date; asking us for advice does not change it.

Do we need separate enquiries for gas and electricity?

No. Include both in one enquiry, along with any other premises. We check each supply’s dates and requirements separately.
