Business energy

We help hotel and accommodation operators arrange electricity and gas contracts, manage renewals and get supplier problems resolved. Based in Liverpool, we support businesses across the UK, from independent hotels and guest houses to accommodation groups.

How can we help
with your venue?
You might be comparing a renewal, taking on a new lease or trying to get an incorrect bill put right. Tell us where you are now and we’ll take it from there.

See how we help →Which energy product fits
how your property operates?
Busy weekends, quieter midweeks and seasonal peaks can all affect how your property uses energy. Heating, hot water, kitchens and laundry add their own patterns, while some consumption continues even when rooms are empty.
Request an energy review →Historical usage helps us understand the pattern, not predict every booking. Tell us about seasonal closures, refurbishment or new facilities so the comparison reflects what you expect to change.
-
When do you use your energy?
Where consumption data is available, we look at how much energy you use and when you use it. Half-hourly electricity data can help show daytime, overnight and seasonal patterns that an annual total alone cannot explain.
-
Which product suits that pattern?
We assess available tariffs and contract structures against your usage pattern, including relevant day and night rates, standing charges and contract conditions. We discuss expected occupancy and operational changes with you, rather than assuming next year will repeat the last.
-
When should you agree the contract?
We review your end dates and the market with you. Gas and electricity can be arranged separately. If you’re not ready for prices yet, our renewal monitoring helps you follow the market while your current contract runs.
What happens
when you contact us?
You don’t need to gather every document first. A bill is useful, but we can start with the site address and what you know about the supply.
- 01 / SHARE
Tell us about the property.
Share a recent bill or the supply details you have. Tell us about occupancy, opening periods and planned changes. If more detailed consumption data would help, your adviser will explain what is needed.
- 02 / COMPARE
We explain your options.
We review the available usage history and supplier requirements, compare suitable products against your operating pattern and explain the total cost, conditions and our commission.
- 03 / ARRANGE
You choose. We organise.
If you decide to proceed, we help arrange the paperwork and supply start. You agree the contract with the supplier and keep your Smart Energy adviser for ongoing support.
Let’s get the energy
handover sorted.
Taking over a hotel or guest house comes with enough to organise. We help establish which supplies serve the property, identify the existing suppliers and coordinate account changes alongside suitable contracts.
If the account is still in the previous occupier’s name or the supplier is asking for more evidence, we help establish what is needed and follow it up.
Get help with a change of tenancy →- 01 The venue’s address and the incoming company’s legal name.
- 02 Your responsibility start date and lease or other supporting evidence.
- 03 Opening readings with photographs of the meter displays and serial numbers.
- 04 Any supplier letters or bills you have for the premises.
Energy used before your agreed contract starts may be charged at deemed rates. Contacting us early helps us progress the arrangements promptly.
Who do you call
when the bill is wrong?
Your adviser can help with account queries after the contract starts. If a reading or charge looks wrong, we review the evidence and raise the issue with the supplier.
Our work with GSG Hospitality is an example of the account support we provide in the wider hospitality sector. It involved investigating an EDF demand and helping resolve the account. The linked case study explains the hospitality business involved and the outcome.

We work around you.
Occupancy, seasonal opening, heating, hot water, kitchens and laundry can all affect your consumption. Tell us about refurbishment plans or changes in how the property operates, so we compare offers using a useful picture of the supply.
For groups, we bring the companies, supplies and renewal dates together. We compare options across the portfolio and consider whether aligning dates would help, while keeping each site’s requirements clear.
Explore support for multiple sites →Busy looking after guests.
Keep your next renewal in view.
Your contract may have months left to run. With occupancy, staffing and the next busy season to plan for, energy renewal dates can easily slip down the list.
Follow wholesale-market movements and set alerts around your electricity and gas renewal plans, so you can decide when to ask us for current supplier prices.
Set up free renewal monitoring →- 01
Set your dates.
Keep electricity and gas renewals separate where their contract dates differ.
- 02
Follow the market.
Set alerts for the wholesale movements relevant to your renewal plans.
- 03
Choose when to act.
Ask for supplier prices when you’re ready. We assess the available products against your property’s usage pattern.
Wholesale movements do not translate directly into the same change in supplier quotes. Monitoring cannot guarantee the lowest price.
What else would
you like to know?
Are you an energy supplier?
No. Smart Energy is an independent business energy adviser. We compare suitable offers and help arrange your contract. The chosen supplier provides and bills for the energy.
How are you paid?
Where commission is included in the contract, it is paid by the supplier. We explain our commission in writing before you agree. There is no obligation to accept a quote.
Can you help a new company with little credit history?
Yes. We check the available supplier routes, including a handful of suppliers we work with that do not carry out credit checks. We explain the conditions attached to the options available for your business.
Will we have to pay a security deposit?
That depends on the supplier and application. We check the conditions of the available offers and explore alternatives if a deposit is required. We will not describe an offer as deposit-free unless that is confirmed.
Can you help if we’re already in a contract?
Yes. We can help plan your next renewal and review account issues. An existing fixed contract normally continues until its agreed end date; asking us for advice does not change it.
Do we need separate enquiries for gas and electricity?
No. Include both in one enquiry, along with any other premises. We check each supply’s dates and requirements separately.
