Are You on SEFE’s Out of Contract Rates Without Realising?

Sefe energy out of contract rates - april 2025 update what you 'll pay if your contract expires without a new deal

If your energy contract with SEFE Energy has expired or been terminated—and no new contract or supplier switch has occurred—you’ll automatically be charged out of contract rates. These are designed as default rates to keep your business supplied, but they’re often more expensive than fixed-term deals.

In this post, we break down:

  • The new SEFE gas and electricity out-of-contract prices from April 2025
  • How rates differ for micro and non-microbusinesses
  • Why you could be paying more than you think

⚠ What’s Included in SEFE’s Out of Contract Charges?

SEFE's out-of-contract pricing includes:

  • A daily standing charge (covers admin, metering, and distribution)
  • A unit rate per kWh of energy used
  • For half-hourly electricity users: a capacity charge (based on kVA)

📌 All prices exclude VAT and Climate Change Levy (CCL)
📌 Charges are subject to change

🧾 Microbusiness Definition

To qualify as a microbusiness under SEFE’s criteria, you must meet one of the following:

  • Use less than 293,071 kWh of gas per year
  • Use less than 100,000 kWh of electricity per year
  • Employ fewer than 10 people and have turnover or balance sheet under €2 million

🚨 Why These Rates Can Be Misleading

At a glance, 6.85p/kWh for gas or 29.41p/kWh for electricity may not look extreme. But here's what they don’t include:

  • DUoS & TNUoS pass-throughs
  • Metering & admin charges
  • Capacity fees (for HH electricity sites)
  • CCL & VAT

These add-ons mean your actual cost per unit can rise by 20–40% or more.
